Fly Away Home

It's been a long time coming, this post.

My sweet Uncle Ed passed away this morning. He's the eldest on the Carlson Side. My dad's big, bridge-builder brother...his description to me during my ninth year...and the bedrock of our family.

Aunt Carolyn, his partner-wife of 58 years, mothered me through my dad's illness in her unique style and is now figuring how to mother her own three daughters through this flight of fatherlessness which seems surreal..and I pray for God's peace and strength for each of them.

So on Memorial Day, today, I happenstance upon a favorite movie of mine, Fly Away Home, and am impressed by the analogy...

...the girl, Anna Paquin, Christ-figure, leading the flock to the promised land, cheered on by her Father, to their place of rest-despite-obstacles...with the cheers of the waiting, encouraging along the way.

and there is peace today.
