Becoming Vulnerable

I have taken a summer hiatus from the blogworld...writing and daily reading. Every now and then I've touched base with family member sites, but that's been about it. However, recently I've discovered some places that I find myself drawn to each day.

Donald Miller is among my favorite authors. I enjoy his fresh view of how he lives his faith, politics, friendships. Through his website I have been introduced to Anne Jackson and Sarah Markley. I am amazed how these two women let it all out there, and in response people reciprocate. Perfect strangers telling each other deeply personal things. I've also thought about sending my secrets out into the vast web of the internet, and yet stop short. Why would what I have to say matter to people I don't know?
Over the past few years I have seen myself reverting back to my safety net. As an introvert I rarely risk entrusting who I am to people. Only my closest friends have seen me as I am deep within. Is that the way it should be? I'm not sure. We all know people who say everything that pops into their mind and emotions. Frankly, those people tend to annoy me. Do we want to be the plumber guy? I don't think so....

But I think I swing the pendulum the other way. I need to become more centered and try to trust people. Recently I attempted to ask a group if they are someone who risks vulnerability. I think it's funny only 2 people even answered that question.

Maybe I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to remove the masks we use to protect. What do you think?
